We pride ourselves on the fact that we are often instructed on high profile cases as we are seen as the go to company for cases involving Vehicle Systems Forensics. Many of our cases are or have been high profile with press interest and as such we can only release details once a case is complete.
We have included brief details of a small selection of cases in the next section we have worked on since 2016 however please note for that behind this selection are a great deal of other cases we can example if required.
We worked with West Midlands Police on this case to support them with Vehicle Systems Forensics. The case centred around a stolen vehicle being used to carry out a gang shooting.
We were able to extract data from the infotainment module which was unsupported by Berla. This allowed us to identify a number of devices that were subsequently attributed to suspects and were interacting with the vehicle at around the time of the shooting. It was compelling evidence to link the suspects to the offence.
This essentially follows the exact same model we have developed our Vehicle Systems Forensics training programme on.
If you either need the support of our services in your crime and collision investigations then just contact us as West Midlands Police did.
We worked with Avon & Somerset Police on this case to support them in retrieving speeds from a vehicle involved in a fatal crash. The vehicle was unsupported for crash data retrieval using the Bosch CDR tools.
The vehicle had veered across the road and into oncoming traffic whereby it collided head on with two other vehicles and killing the occupant of the second vehicle it hit.
We were able to check the front facing ADAS camera for any stored data, the infotainment module for journey data and also managed to facilitate network communication to recover speeds recorded in what is termed freeze frame data on some of the ECU's.
This was produced as an expert report and was scrutinised by the defence team who accepted the findings.
We assisted solicitors representing a client in this case that was being investigated for murder. The case involved a vehicle running over a pedestrian and dragging them for over half a mile under the vehicle. The vehicle used was burnt out however Police investigators were able to recover data from the infotainment module.
Upon receipt of instruction we reacquired the data to demonstrate the data was acquired in a sound manner. We then produced an expert report and mapped the full journey out from the data and vehicle events. We were able to make sound interpretations of the data due to ongoing testing and research we carry out in this field.
This allowed for those instructed to defend the client to fully understand the data from the vehicle and its reliability in this case.
We worked with Greater Manchester Police to assist in a number of kidnappings whereby victims had been targeted for large sums of money. The vehicles were integral to the investigation and a number of them were examined by us whereby significant evidence was uncovered to assist the case.
These cases were documented as part of the BBC series - The Detectives - Serious Organised Crime.
We assisted Police Scotland with the formulation of an expert report for data recovered from a vehicle used in a high profile murder.
The vehicles movements and events were plotted and full descriptions of vehicle systems were documented explaining the source of the data and its reliability.
We assisted barristers and the court dealing with this murder in North Wales to explain Vehicle Systems Forensics and review the prosecution material.
This included theft methods of modern vehicles and how modern vehicle apps work and communicate with the vehicle and the manufacture.
In addition to our main services around Vehicle Systems Forensics we often are consulted on other vehicle related investigations and details of some of these type of cases are listed below.
Provided an expert report for the identification and imagery analysis of a vehicle used in an execution style murder in Northern Ireland. Vehicle identified from thirty-five CCTV clips recovered by PSNI and levels of support attributed to each clip. Gave evidence at Belfast Crown Court where evidence was accepted. Three defendants found guilty after trial for murder
Worked with Independent Office for Police Complaints in respect of a police pursuit whereby the subject vehicle killed a pedestrian. Police officers pursuing the subject vehicle were subject of investigation. Extensive investigation and overlaying a variety of data sources revealed the accounts were inconsistent with the facts. Disciplinary hearings were held.
Commented on a number of items recovered by Cheshire Police believed to be used in the commission of vehicle theft and key programming. Provided an expert report including explanations of relay / amplification attacks in how a modern vehicle is compromised
